Dual heater wattage question

It seems that a general suggestion is to have two heaters in your tank/sump, so that if one fails, your tank will still have a working heater. But I haven't been able to figure out what wattage rating I'm supposed to follow when buying the two heaters. For example, if a 300W heater is recommended for my tank size, do I buy two 300W heaters or 2 150W heaters?
