Green Goby and Acro Friend or Foe???

I recently bought a green goby it was listed as reef safe. After a few days in the tank I noticed he took up home in a 4 inch piece of Acro I got back in Jan. The Acro was growing and looked great. One night I noticed the polyps had not come out. I watched it for a few days. After a few days I found what had happened, the Green Goby had eaten the polyps!!! Why did this happen? Is the Acro dead ( how do I know) or will it come back? What can I do about this-. I thought I read Acro is the natural host but I dont remember seeing anything about being a dinner host.

Gumdrop gobies will tend to do exactly that, host in your SPS and upset the coral. I'm not sure I've heard of them eating polyps, but don't put two in, as they'll lay eggs on the coral, which kills it. Sounds like you keep to take it out.... not an easy task....

Thanks for the info- So how do the eggs kill the coral. If I take the fish out will the polyps come back out? Is that why they are staying in cause of the fish.

I don't belive they eat polyps either, but they will Irritate the hell out of most of your corals. I just had this same issue which I ended last week. wait until your lights go out. then take a bright flashlight and shine it right in gobys eyes and suck him out with a syphon tube...works like a charm
