Shrimp or LR to cycle tank?

Should I just let my LR cycle my tank or should I drop in an uncooked shrimp? If I use the shrimp how long should I leave it in the water?

I tried 3 shrimp in my 120 for 3 days - no amonia spike what-so-ever. I put in my LR and got ammonia readings in 30 minutes - I say go with the LR. JMO

I would just use the live rock to begin the cycle. I haven't had much luck using the shrimp method. I actually find it to be unnecessary.

Thank you, LR it is . I had about 15 lbs of LR in since last week but I spiked the salinity up accidentally. I have it at 1.024 salinity right now and I just added almost 15 more lbs last night so I think im all set and ready to start a cycle.

Eat the LR, use the shrimp. Old bay works wonders on lr.
