Keeping a clown away from a flowerpot?
Its been about a week since i bought this Goniopora and now one of my clown fish is constantly rubbing against it causing it to retract.
Is there a way that i can keep him away from it, I also bought him some species of anemone (you can see it on the far left) but he dosnt seem interested at all. Thank you! |

Unfortunately, if he's set on hosting in the Goniopora, he'll probably continue to do so no matter how many anemones you introduce to him. However, the Goniopora may "get used to" the clown and stop retracting.

Yeah, my clown was doing the same thing, but the flower pot got used to it.

I think that might be a Condy anemone too, that might have something to do with it. Clowns very very rarely host those.

ChunksInClemson is right, condylactus anemone. unfortunatly, it is a non-hosting species for clownfish. although some do take accept its host, most dont. you could return that anemone and get another one (most likely a BTA) which most ocellaris will accept or just leave that in hopes it will attract to it. for the meantime until the clownfish likes something else, i would cover the goni up with something like a strawberry basket, a box made out of eggcrate,, or anything else to keep the clownfish from irritating it. goniporas are hard enough to keep in marine aquaria, the last thing you want to do is add another stressor to it. hope this helps.

Yea i have 2 clown fish, the one you see in the pic is the one that likes the Goni but the other one is hosting the the anemone only when the lights go off, when the lights are on they just swim around and just sit in a cave. I will try to cover up the Goni to see if i can get it to spread out more.
Thanks! |
