refuge lights

have my lights on from the time get up to the time go to bed. hould leave them on longer or is this ok

Most have them come on whenever they're main lights are off.

something about keeping a steady oxygen level.
i do it so i don't blow a circuit.

How, I have them on at the same time because they are next to each other. That way the light does not disrupt the main tank.

I'm sure i'm off a bit on the chemistry of it all.. but the gist of it is, when the lights are on your pH goes up and then falls again when they are turned off. In order to maintain the pH or keep it more stable, have your fuge lights come on when the main lights go off.

It has something to do with photosynthetic organisms converting CO2 to O2 when there is a supply of light, I think.

When lights are on, plants (in the fuge) take in CO2 and produce oxygen. When lights go off, plants take in O2 and produce CO2. The higher levels of CO2 are responsible for the PH swings.
