poseidon ps4 pump question

I have this pump:

Poseidon ps4 pump

http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewIt...product=CP7117

I got it off of ebay and have no idea what 240 gallons per hour feels like. I think it might be having issues. The way I have it installed is hanging upside down under the tank, the intake hose is 1" and it runs 18 " verticle to the intake in the tank. The output hose's is 3/4" and it runs 12" to a 3/4 inch T and then 29" to the output bulkheads. On the inside is the 1/2 I.D. arms that lead to fans. The pressure at both ends is low I have no idea how to describe this better...like a kitchen faucet at 1/4 or less flow.... The return from the sump is stronger.

Any ideas would be helpful for some reason I thought that this flow would be stronger.

My Poseidon PS4 is rated at 1225 gallons per hour.
You said yours is only 240 gallons per hour?
A maxi-jet 1200 is rated for about 295 gallons per hour.
Something doesn't sound right.

That figure of 240 gallons per hour is at 17 feet of head pressure.
You should be getting way more flow than that.
I do know you would be getting alot more flow if you used 1" all the way.

I was going to change some of the hose to get 1" all the way but the bulkheads are 3/4. What does yours feel like. Does it feel strong or Soft, I am trying to get a feel for wether this one is working, before I break down and buy another one. I like the pump it is very quiet and no vibration....

I have my P4 going to a bottom spray bar. The return shows lots of go flow in the sump.
It is the quietest pump I've ever used.

M finn is there any way you could describe what the pressure feels like coming outof your pump. Is it strong? Would it move your sand around? Can you see it moving air bubbles? With mine it barely moves the air bubbles and feel's very week...

I have no way to feel the presure of the pump in the tank as it goes to a bottom of the tank spray bar. But I can see the returns in my sump and there is alot of flow.
Useing the head loss chart on the rc home page I am getting just about 900 gallons per hour flow.

Ok Thank's Mfinn I will be getting a new pump and see if there is any difference. Any thoughts on a what kind of pressure or gph a closed loop should be running at, I am sure this is around here somewhere, but haven't looked yet.

Look at the RC homepage. On the left hand side is a link called Head Loss calculator.
Should be able to give you a good idea.

You are losing a lot of flow by using such small pipe.
With my T2 I recently switched from 1/2" to 1", what a difference.
I had to throttle it back, from wide open to 1/6 closed.
Also, if I remember the manual correctly, the one way it can't be
mounted it upside down. I would think that would also affect the output.

Don't have the manual Todd. So I guess this weekend I will be changing the hose and and remounting the pump. I have enclosed a picture maybe you could say wether it is upside sown or not..

I was sold this under the story that This was a T4 Titanium, but it is actually the same makers as the t4 titanium, I had read good thing's about those pump's. I am not stuck on this pump but would like to make it work if I can. Maybe I will look into getting a gph guage at Home Depot and installing it somehow...
