The shrimp is only cleaning(eating the dead tissue)
Mine does this with or without cuts, it can hurt once in a while when they get into a fresh cut.

Mine has always jumped on my hands to clean them but never ripped off a scab. Definitely get some gloves to protect yourself from that brute...

Be careful with open wounds in the aquarium. Theres all sorts of bacteria and what-not (read: toxins from corals) that could be potentially hazardous to ya.
In the same vein, also be careful with the medicated bandages. Antibacterial and other medications could potentially harm the aquarium critters.

My cleaner seems kind of lonely also. I just kind of hangs out on his rock and waits. I feed him silversides "by hand" and he just kind of tries to get the other fish to come over. It is pretty pethetic. Have you all looked into other kinds of fish that want to be cleaned?

This is worth repeating!

Thank you, pnosko.
Personally, I dont think washing will help once a toxic reaction or infection starts. There is very high potential for this to happen before youre able to take your hands out of the water. Once its started, youre already too late.

P.S. This isnt meant as a flame. Just to raise awareness. Heck, I'm guilty of doing it myself on occasion when something needs immediate attention and i cant take precautions.

Any open wound in a tank is a crap shoot at best. I have a friend that lost that bet and about lost his hand. (he has a scar now that runs the entire length of his hand from where they had to "split" the tissue to keep his hand from exploding.

This is not even an "uncommon" occurrence. This happens pretty frequently and I guess it could change your ideas about sticking your hands in the tank without gloves on.

A $13 pair of gloves is a lot cheaper than a few thousand dollar medical bill. Keeping a reef is like having sex with that hot neighbor - always wear protection!
