half an inch glass make for a good insulator?

Hey guys,
I just had a custom made tank with half an inch glass.
Do you guys think the half inch glass would keep my water temperature more stable now??
I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Thanks.

Good question.
The tank isn't so big...36x15x22...
it's in the living room, but it doesn't get too much light..

Glass isn't nearly as efficient an insulator as acrylic. It may improve your system stability slightly but the thermal capacity of plate glass is quite high at 5-7 Btu-inch/hr-ft~2- ° F while acrylic is only 1.35 Btu-inch/hr-ft~2

This means that while there will be a slight improvement in stability it won't be a great one.

dalbrecht,
so thickness doesn't matter with glass?
Acrylic scratches way too fast. esp with live rock. that's why I went with half inch glass...
nano, I paid a good junk man...300 bucks.. had I wanted 3/8's, it was going to cost me 160... I paid almost double.

$300 is reasonable. was it low iron? i agree on the acrylic issue! have you ever assembled a tank? its not very easy without experience. REEF-ON!!!

I have no idea what the iron content is. But this is my second tank I'm putting together. I had a 20 gallon, fish only...I'm going all out reef this time. I know I'm gonna make a ton of mistakes, but that's how I'll learn right? REEF-ON!!
