few of these growing on one of my rocks. about 1.5 inch long with little branches. color is purple

Very hard to say, IMO. I can take a look at a reference book, but I can only guess it's some sort of polyp, perhaps a hydroid.

i would say hydroid as well. they are not really a good thing as they can sting fish, corals, inverts, and you. dont remove them bare handed if you decide to! but as long as they dont over take the tank they really wont bother anything.
