Ro Tds
I just bought a gallon of RO water from my lfs just so I could test it for TDS. It tested 79. Is that too high? If so I will probably start off with distilled as I have tested it and it was 0. I'll get an RO/DI system in a few months.

Did you flush the system for about an hour before testing the water?

79 !!! Wow thats like straight Tap water. Don't fly off the handle till you confirm it with someone elses meter but if it really is 79 you need to talk to the LFS owner.

There are two issues involved. The first is the quality of the RO setup at the fish store, and the second is the method of storage after purification. You might be seeing either problem. I think some storage containers can leach ions into the water, but they aren't considered harmful. The chemistry forum is probably a better resource for that issue.

I'm an idiot, I didn't read the whole post. I thought the water was from your RO filter. Sorry

My tap water is 80. My ro water is 7, and my ro/di water is 0. Even a crappy ro/di system should be able to pull water under 20 or so. I would talk with the owner of the store.

What did you put the water in to bring it home? The container is probably a large contributor. Unless it has been used for nothing but RO or DI its probably dirty and the clean water is attracting whatever is in the bottle. See if the LFS will test the water straight out of the RO for you.
