florida zoanthid pics

a long time ago i promised some people in the midwest id post pictures of our florida zoanthids exposed at low tide so they could see their natural habitat

@chup

the catch is this: florida sun is so psychotically bright and high in uv that if you put them in a tank you basically need a 1000w halide to get decent growth out of them. in captivity they look bleh and grow SLOOWLY. theyre legal to harvest but you dont want em. theres also a flourescent yellow form. like a highlighter dayglo yellow but again it needs a 1000w halide to keep the color. they all wind up either murky green or brown in a tank.

You could send me some, to try and see if they keep there color!

Trust me my friend, the names are not important at all. I've own hundreds of different zoas and palys and don't know the name of a single one. In my opinion, they are a waste of valuable time.

I'm with JeremyBlaze, I'll give it a shot lol. i harvested some in rocky pointe mexico and everyone gave me a hard time about how ugly they were when I got them. Now everyone comments on how cool they are and wants to know where I got them. i just smile

great pics, when i do water changes a lot of my zoas are exposed to the air for a while with no ill effects.

I bet its in biscayne bay. There are a lot of areas with rocks like that and the water is clear there just like in the pic.
