The shape and holes are leading me to believe it is a harmless sponge.

So what would you suggest,
Let it stay? Take it off and keep it? Take it of and throw it away? Thanks, Bill |

I third sponge. And that is from three aquarists in Oklahoma (or an ex-Oklahoman)
![]() Let it stay. It should do fine. There would be no direct effect on the coral. The only way it would "hurt" the coral is if the coral receeded into it's skeleton and the sponge started to grow on the exposed skeleton. But, you would most likely have more problems then just the sponge if the coral is retracting like that.
