Could be kaelini or possibly wauo island. Sorry about the spelling.

I would say both IME. It's not as dense as a lot of other rock, say Fiji, so it has more surface area. Also for decoration. It has nice open areas for coral and another bonus is coraline algae grows great on it in a fairly short time.

I'm not sure where it is, I just know that I have this kind of rock in my tank and it is beautiful. It's a little more dense then figi and has alot of nooks and crannies for frags. I can go back to the store where I got it tomorrow and see if they can give me more information on this kind of rock and where it is found.

That rock is more dense than figi but some other rock is more dense such as Kalini. I'm sorry I didn't get to the store today to find out more info. on this kind of rock. Sometimes I have bad days with my legs. They don't work really well for me sometimes. I will try again tomorrow.

You really don't have to do that marinemom.
I'm just going to assume it's kaelini. Many thanks |

O.K. the correct spelling is Wau island and it is about 100 miles from the Figi islands. From what I was told a whole another set of islands. This rock is very pourus and light. It was described to me as five pounds of wau island would be the size of a football and five pounds of kalini rock would be the size of a softball. In other words, the kalini is more dense than wau island. By the way I didn't mind going to the store to find out the info. on this rock. I needed to get some water anyway. Hope this helps.

Kaelini perahps. It might be Fiji. Fiji rock really looks different from one piece to another.

I don't know much about rock - but I lived in Fiji for many years - my wife was from Nau which is about 70 miles from Suva. understand that Fiji is composed of about 300 islands and covers a distance of over 300 miles. It seems to me rock type will depend on collector and area from which it collected. Most outer islands have very poor transportation and could not have the connections to ship rock. Thanks.

Even the guy at the fish store was kind of confused. He was telling me it could be a mixture of fiji and tonga. That confused me and since it looked so nice, I just bought them.
Does that make any sense? a combination of Fiji and Tonga branch? |
