peppermint shrimp

I picked up a peppermint shrimp 4 or 5 days ago, the first day I say him out a little bit, but since then he is always in a cave in the rock, can barely see him, Do they typically only come out at night?

Yes, I usually only see mine at night as well, unless they get really bold and decide they want a piece of food that is close to their space at feeding time. Then they may dart out to get it, but retreat back into hiding very quickly. With just the moonlights on, I can see them moving around all over the tank.

I hope that alleviates some of your concern.

Peppermint shrimp do much better in groups and are basically nocturnal, meaning that they come out at night more when the lights are out.

I almost never saw my pep shrimp in my 200 reef. The only time I ever saw them come out was when I would shut the whole system down for a cleaning. They also did nothing for apt but I hear on RC that you just keep needing to add them until one teaches the others how to do it. I've never seen them eat apt but heck that is what people say.

My peppermint do hide during the day in somewhere of his "home" which is the small cave and there is the little opening on the bottom of the LR between the LS and LR and he would chill in there at times and I always can't find him during the day time while I am able to find him at nights when it is roaming around the tank.
