Glowing heater

Lights just turned off on the tank while I was near by. Noticed the heater coils glowing red. never saw this before. Anyone else?

They glow when the heater is on. Thats what actually heats up in the heater, the coils. Its like a hairdryer, it you have ever lookd into one.

Thanks. After many years of FW and SW guess I just never noticed it before. Did not want to wake to an exploded heater.

A slight “glow” is normal, in my fw mine do that to. But if it is very intense I would check it out just to be safe

If I have doubts about my heater I turn it up a little and look for that glow - it makes me feel all better

Uncommon to have a heater come on in this season. Mind you never, ever trust a heater thermostat---they will NOT heat your tank to the setting. They're just as likely to way overheat.
