My tank has been up and running smoothly now for over 9months. This morning as I'm checking everything out, as I do every morning, I notice what looks like a spider web, spider hole and everything, on the back of my largest piece of LR.
![]() As I'm pretty sure spiders are not capable of living in saltwater, I'd appreciate some ideas or answers if you've got some!! BTW, I have a 15g saltwater tank, 23lbs LR/LS, 2 x 15w (one daylight, one moonlight) fluorescents, 2 oscellaris clowns, one yellow-tailed damsel (who hitched a ride in the rock), a cleaner shrimp, two blue-legged hermit crabs, a feather worm and one small anemone (Condy). The other stow-aways are a million tiny snails, and numerous, and what exactly I'm not sure, what appear to be baby brittle stars!! I've asked my local aquatropicale sales rep. and she believes they are jelly-fish that will eventually die. I don't believe that's the case because they keep getting bigger and they only have 5 arms. I haven't investigated further, as they seem to have no ill affect on my mini reef. WOW!!! That was a mouthful!! ![]()

not at all...it's like a very, very thin gauze. It's in two places that are very near each other and one side has a perfect little entrance to it.....It's very odd.
If I didn't know better I'd think it was a spider

You could do a search on vermetid snails and ctenophores. I think there are pictures at Reefkeeping.com.

When i first got my tank i had some white bell looking shapes that had what appeared to be tentacles. It moved just like a jelly fish. I took that in to the LFS and they said it was a jelly fish. So i put it back into the tank and it got about a eigth ofaninch before being eaten by my fish.

if it's attached to your liverock then we have a similiar growth. I read that it's a structural sponge. White and webbish. that'd be it. i can't remember where i found it though. I think check the 220 picture ID site at the top of this forum.

Just an FYI...Mr Itz Frank is the winner!!! On melevsreef.com website it is listed as an unknown sponge!!!
It's not as intricate as the one shown but it's just the beginning!! I'd like to thank everyone for participating in Name-that-Growth ![]()
