I have a auto topoff set up. A 32 gal rubbermaid brute can. Which I fill with ro/di water 0 to 1 tds. inside I put a pump on a timer to run twice a day for 15 mins each time. Conected to pump is a 1/2 line run into a tee reducer 1/2 inlet two 1/4 outlets one going to float in sump other returning to can. Thought was water pressure would bypass float when full and return to tank. Now to problem I have had two pumps hooked up to this a quiet one 4000 and a submersible sump pump from harbor freight. Tds raises dailt in can with both. Have lid on top of can. Only thing in with water is pump and lines (electric, feed and return). Water went from 1 tds too 22 tds since yesterday. My question what is being dissolved in the water and if it is coming from pumps is it going to hurt anything? And if it coming from pump these are the same type (quiet one) I have been using only externaly for my return and skimmer.

the first few seconds/minutes the RO tops off, you will have slightly less pure water, which would promote TDS creep. There is a way to remedy it by making some sort of little vessel (some new ATO do it for you, though, by wasting the first few minutes of RO).

Couldnt honestly say but with the top on and being in the basement I would think very little if any. Lid has no condensation on it when removed.

Hmm. You've stumped me. I would almost be concerned about the can leaching something, if that is the case. Have you recalibrated your TDS meter lately?

Not since changing ro/di filters 4 to 6 weeks ago. I am stumped also thats why I went back to filling with a bucket and checking tds in can for a week tds climbed to 3 tds after a week. Replaced pump(quiet one) with sump pump and tds climbed to 90 after a week stayed 2 to 5 for for a few days and I figured it was the pump next thing I new it was 90 almost overnight. also thought I may have cross contaminated with saltwater from bucket. So I removed water rinsed with a few gallons of ro/di water refilled. Took original quiet one apart cleaned replaced ceramic shaft put back together and put into can and ran for 10 min until return water measured same as water in can 1tds.Put lid on and checkes this evening and it was 22tds.
