red slime remover
How does this stuff work - I had a "tank sitter" while I was away and really over fed - they were afraid that they would starve the fish.....can't fault them for that.
I've been trying, unsuccessfully, for the past month or so - reduced feeding, lower lights, etc.....but I think I might need an extra boost. All water is RO/DI and parameters are fine - I think the source is the feeding. It's a fowlr. Was thinking of using the red slime remover....have some very sensitive fish when it comes to water quality....e..g. angels....any issues for the fish with this stuff? |

I don't have any angels, but I've used the stuff with no ill effects on my fish-hippo tang, yellow tang, clown, cleaner wrasse, and a couple of shrimp

I've used chemi-clean twice before to remove red slime in a reef system. Neither time was anything harmed by it (other than the cyano).

Same here, and I have a reef with lots of picky/ fragile corals, inverts, and fish.
Definately recommend it! |

I had 2 small pathces about 2" in diameter and used a turkey baster and slowly sucked up chunks...took about 10-15 minutes working around delicate rock work... If it's to much then the chemical cleaner would be a better option.

This has got to be one of the biggest debates on this board. Red slime remover, chemi-clean or anything else that is chemically added to your tank for the purpose of removing cyano, will work in some people's tank and not work in others. I have used it twice. The first time the cyano went away and came back after about three weeks. After awhile though it finally died out. Don't know what caused it to die off, but it did. The second time I used it, a few SPS frags that I was trying to get started off RTN'ed. I personally will never use the stuff any more after this. You have to find out what is feeding the cyano in order to get rid of it. It is an exhaustive, irritating and frustrating thing to try and do. The one thing that I am now doing as I have it for the third time in three years, is to up my WC's to twice a week at 10% each time or do a 20% WC once a week. Depends on how the week goes. I suck out as much as I possibly can during each WC. Eventually I think it will cycle out. Just wanted to offer my 2 cents for what it's worth.

I used it once on my 90 and had great results. It started working within 24hrs of adding it to the tank.
