Current Outer orbit question

A friend of mine owns the Outer Orbit HQI fixture. He was wondering if he can replace the HQI lamp for a XM or phoenix bulb. In addition, does he have to use the 96W sunpaq lamps or can he just get any 96W PC lamps to replace it. Sorry I don't own this lamp so I was just helping him out. Thanks.
