Need new powerheads - recommendations for efficient ones?
Hi,
I have a 60 gallon tank with 3 old powerheads in it. There is a Aquaclear 302 on the left (pointing forward but keeps moving around), a 202 in the back middle (pointing to the left) and a 802 on the right (pointing forward). I also just bought a Tsunami wavemaker and am trying to decide if I need new pumps or not. I don't think that the 202 in the middle starts anymore and the 802 is making a rattling sound when starting up. They are all about 10 years old so it could be time. Any recommendations on new pumps? Are there some that are more efficient? What do people use to keep critters out of the inlets? I know I should probaby move the 2 smaller ones to point to the right, but have not gotten around to that yet. I am up for recommendations here, too. The tank has lots of polyps, a hammerhead, annome (sp?) some mushrooms, zoos, crabs, starfish, clown, etc in it. thanks Chris |

Maxi Jets are REALLY good if you get the mod for it

Tough to get a powerhead that's 'too' strong. MaxiJet, Tunze, and Seio are all decent powerheads.
Of course, I plug for a closed loop.

Since you already have a wave maker, get MaxiJets. Tunze and Seios won't work on your wave maker.

Off the wave maker I like my Seio's. The only problem is that one struggles to restart after a water change. Frustrating but easily dealth with given a little patience.

2 of the smaller maxijets with the prop mods would be an efficient and effective replacement for the older 3!

Thanks for the suggestions
Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds like the MaxiJets are good and if I ever get motivated (have time) they can be modified.
