Red Slime???

My tank is about 6 weeks old and it is developing a purplish dusting on the rocks and sandbed. At first I thought this was coralline but it is not. Is this Red Slime and if so what do I do about it? Will it go away on it's own or should I treat it with something? Thanks in advance

If you can suck it up easily with a syphon or turkey baster then its likely cyanobacteria. Alot of people get this when their tank is new. You should be able to ride it out with good skimming and regular water changes and patience.

You could get some ChemiClean, that will get rid of it. But it's just a temporary fix till the "cycle" is over.

If you increase flow in your tank, that would also help.

Thanks for the help. I can't siphon it off, it's more like a dusting on the sandbed and rocks, looks really dirty. I have 2 tunze 6100 streams on a multiconroller so I think my flow is good. They are so powerful they knock rocks over at times. Do you think this really is Red Slime or somehting else?
