Green Water
Hi Everyone,
I just set up a 65 gal rr AGA tank with a 20L sump. Right away I had green water. I have since turned off the sump to work on baffels and added a UV sterilizer. I purchase all my water from a LFS who gets natual water from a company in Catalina I think. I have not turned the lights on yet becuase I want the Live Rock to cycle. Does anyone know what else I should do or look at? Thanks, Tim |

I feel your pain. For a while I had water that was greener than green. My tank was established and the green arrived when I added 325 watts of lighting after running 20 watts for years. I'm positive that the bloom was caused by very high levels of nutrients in the water. I did 50% water changes every day for 4 or 5 days. Then I did 10% water changes every day for a week. After that it was crystal clear. I would keep doing 50% water changes as long as it takes. However, if your tank hasn't cycled yet you'll probably want to let it do that. Btw, I was using RO/DI water for all of my water changes.

Buy a UV sterilizer or see if you can borrow one. This will clear your green water right up.
