Dpending on the type it will grow pretty big. just make sure that once it eats all of your algae and junk give him supplements just in case. like algae pellets or something nothing complicated. and also make sure that you only get one for every ten gallons. ( that is kind of small for queen conches and others that gety rather big so just to be safe just keep one for every 20 to 30 gallons. a ten gallon is fine as long as you feed him like i said) conches wont attack fish...the only thing that is a negative for thes guys is their size if you have a big tank don't worry about he'll be fine with fishes and inverts, but he might knock you rockwork down.

Most of the ones in pet stores are fighting conches, which will get about 4 inches. Did you ask them what kind it was?

thats not good then ... a conch that size will starve unless target fed. They are grazers and eat all sorts of nuisance algae. If you are looking for clean up then buy a fighting conch becuase it wont starve. If you want a "pet" then get it but make sure to feed it algae.

Speckled grouper's picture is that of a horse conch, Pleuroploca gigantea. It is a carnivore from the Atlantic coast.

My LFS has one that is 16"+ tip to tip. I'm pretty sure it is dead/dying (good thing the tank isn't in the coral system)

I would stay away from conches unless they are 2" or smaller or you have a HUGE tank.

Yes, I have it in the 55g sump of my 90g grouper tank. Like I said, the turbo snail survived the attack...and I haven't seen it attack anything else.

I have a big old spider conch in my tank. I like him although sometimes he gets bold and goes for rock climbing expidetions that make me uncomfortable. Once I add more corals, he's out.

Try and stick to the nice small Orange Lips.

Waxxiemann,
How big do spider conchs get? I've seen pics, they are beautiful!
What are the Orange Lips?

We tried pellets and chuncks of fishk, but haven't actually seen it eat them, it's only been in there for 8 weeks.

Quote from The Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience

"The horse conch is a voracious carnivore and feeds on other mollusks, including oysters. The thick, sculptured lip is used to chip a hole in the prey’s shell and allow the proboscis to be inserted."

Your conch may require live food.
