mag-drive external?

Was just wondering if anybody has ran any of the Mag-drive pumps externaly and with what kind ofsucess? The reason I'm asking is I stumdled upon a mag-24 that is too big for its present tank and i'm thinking of using it for a closed loop pump. Thanks guys.

the mag pumps do work well. This may heat your tank as a closed loop. I would be cautious on external mounting some after a while may tend to leak.

Yeah, they leak. It's not anything that would cause a flood but it's like one drip a minute which is too much to justify.

Iv'e run my Mag 12 external for 14 months with no leaks or even salt creep. Great idea to cut down on heat IMO.

I've heard with regular maintenace (which they suggest) that you don't really have any problems, maybe a slow leak like some have said, but IMO, put a towel under it, because it will need to be on something soft anyway so it doesn't vibrate on a solid surface and get loud anyway, PROBLEM SOLVED!!

I am running a Mag 12 external, no problems.

I ran a Mag 7 a couple years ago, it was used, and leaked, replaced it with a new one, and it did not leak.

Buy yourself a sequence snapper. Same flow, $25 less a month to run.

A mag 24 costs $130. A sequence dart $199. The mag uses 265, the sequence 140 (and has 50% more flow).

That being said, that 125 extra watts will cost you $18 a month, so the $70 you're saving will be wasted in electricity in 4 months.
