Mag pre-filter

I have a MAG drive running with the sponge pre-filter for my return pump in my refugium. Every 2-3 weeks I need to take it out and clean it to keep the flow back to the tank good. Is it ok to runwith out the pre-filter? Or is that a big no no.

I don't run one on my mag pumps. I do run one on my mj that feeds my phosban/carbon reactors.

I would defiantly take the pre filter off. Not only will you need to clean it every 2 weeks it will also make your nitrates rise if you don't clean it enough.
