Aqua C Remora...is it the Best???
Is it the best HOB skimmer for under $200? I have a 29g tank and right now I have a Seaclone 100 on it which seems to be working OK. Would I really notice that big a difference, enough to warrant spending the extra dough to get a Remora?

The Seaclone does not have a good reputation as a strong skimmer. The Remora is a much better skimmer, although significantly more expensive. I have had the Pro version for years, and it performs consistently as long as you keep the spray nozzle clean.
The good thing about getting a Remora is that it will handle a bigger tank if you decide to upgrade in the future. |

I used the Remora on my 38 with no sump for several years and it did a great job. Make sure it has the MJ1200 (some came with the Rio). And, I'd recommend the skimmer box accessory...without it I had micro bubbles entering the display.

I would HIGHLY reccomend the Coralife Super Skimmer (220, or 125) over the Remora.
Some of the remoras are GREAT skimmers, the problem is that theyre cut and built by hand, and their specifications aren't that tight. Theres a ton of variance in individual skimmers, and some of them just dont work. With the CSS, you'll get something that skims your tank great. With the remora, you're taking a 50/50 shot at getting something that works great, or something that doesnt do anything.

I thought most people prefered the remora to the CSS? Isn't the CSS prone to overflowing?
How do they compare in terms of microbubbles? And is the CSS pump more bulky than the MJ used by the remora? Thanks, Dan

The remora I run on a 55 works great with the overflow box...I pull atleast one cup every 48 hours.

My vote would be for the Remora. I have owned them both. The coralife did not work for me period, nothing. The remora worked fine.

My friend uses a EV-180 and got me familiar with Aqua C. I have a Remora Pro with a MAG3 and the accessory box. It does a nice job on my 32G. I can't say if it is the "BEST" or not, because the only other experience I have with a skimmer is my AquaC EV-1000 on my big tank, but I can definitely say that AquaC has great customer service and does build a quality product that they back up. I should mention, that before getting my Remora Pro, I had a regular Remora, and it had a small leak at the injector port arm (from the pump input). It didn't show itself for a couple of days. I exchanged it for a Pro (because I wanted an even more powerful skimmer), and it's been working well. AquaC was very accomodating when I needed a EV-1000 custom made to about 2 inches smaller than spec. in order to fit into my stand. They charged me a fair price and Jason kept in touch along the way. I highly recommend Aqua C. |
