Powerhead Suggestions

Good evening everyone.

I want to take out the 2 power heads that i have and get just one!

Is that possible?

I have a QO 6000 running my return so with head height etc...It is pushing out 1000 gallons per hour.
Is there a power head i could get that i could put at the other end of my tank that would push enough.

And one that would not cost me 5g's
As everything is twice what you pay in the US for some reason, although our dollar is pretty good.
So unfair:

Also how do i point all of these. I have screamed and yelled like a 2 year old because i get them right. If i do it one way the corals look like they will fly out of the tank. And if i do it another way this one is not enough or that one.....ahhhh drives me crazy...any general idea how to place them in a 6 foot tank?

Sorry so many questions..
Thanks
Lisa

you should have at least 30x turnover in your tank, from what I've been told, so 1000gph is not quite enough. I highly recomend getting a Tunze. Altough they are expensive (mine was 170 on ebay) they produce an amazing amount of flow. I have a 6080, which does 2250gph and only uses 17W! If you were to get one maybe a little more powerful, that would be enough for your entire tank. My 100g now has waves on the surface and all of my corals (softies) look amazing. Another option would be to get a couple MJ1200's and do the mod on them. As far as PH placement, I have found that pointing my Tunze length wise across the tank works best, otherwise the flow will be too concentrated in one area. Also, the bounceback from a strong PH will create small waves which seem to be great for random flow to corals.

if your talking about your 130g tank...........

get either a Tunze or a MJ 1200 w/Mod

for a 6 foot tank, i'd highly recommend two PH's. One on each side would help ensure flow over the whole tank and help prevent any dead spots. As far as 30X turnover, I'd have to disagree. I've only heard most people flipping 10 - 15X empty tank volume per hour. I personaly only have that much. I'm not saying that's bad in a tank that size though. It's whatever your corals say really.

As far as placement, try putting one on the left side pointing dead at the right side. The second one, I'd place on the right side near the back corner and pointing up to break the surface slightly and pointing to the center of the whole tank. That way, you get great random flow and the gas exchange is increased.

Just my .02.

Thanks everyone.

Okay so what is the mod on the mj's?

But all in all i was thinking the tunze just wasn't entirely sure.
So can i take into acct my return flow from the sump or no? As it has alot of power coming out of that nozel. I was going to get my husband to split it off 2 times and put it at either end in the corners and then ad a good power head. But right now i do have the mj's just don't know what the mod is..

Thanks again
Lisa
