Too much cashola...
So I'm leaving this hobby even though I love it. Reason being, I'm a dirt poor college kid who moves every year.
What's the best way to sell off my: Lighting Fixture (24"NOVA T-5) Power Head (Aqua Clear 30) Heater (Stealh 150w) Filtration (Fluval 205) Additives (Kent Marine Liquid Calcium, Essential Elements, Reef Carbonate) Live Rock (44lbs. Fiji Premium from Live Aquaria) Tank (29 gal. all glass) Misc. Equipment Should I sell it all together in a package deal or should I sell it seperatly? Where should I sell it RC, Ebay, Local, LFS? If anyone is interested or has suggestions please let me know. Thanks. MO. |

I would try to sell it locally.
Do you have a local reef club you could sell to?

Go over to the reef club forums, find one that's nearest you, and start a thread in that forum. Great way to help out fellow "local" reefers. There is also the selling forum here on rc. I wouldn't go with ebay, too much hassle and shipping involved.
BTW, where are you located? I'd love some rock, but I'm betting your too far away, I don't want to pay for shipping right now, your not the only broke reefer round here Good Luck though, and sorry you have to leave the hobby, but hopefully not for good. Brianna

Parting out seems to be the most sure way to recoup more of your money, although you will probably still only get roughly 50 percent on most items depending on the desireability and condition. If time is a factor selling the whole shebang is usually alot faster but probably unless you have the best of the best, you will only recoup 30-40 percent.
Lfs will usually be the worst deal for you, as they can already get most items at cost. Ebay will charge to list and take a percentage. I would decide whether you want to sell whole and/or part out and try Craigslist (as many free listings as you want), and here (same thing). Checking w/ a local reef club is also a good idea. Good luck! (oh, and buy a 12 gallon aquapod with the proceeds, lol)

I was in your shoes 15 years ago and know the feeling. Unload the big items and keep the powerhead and some smaller stuff so you keep the dream alive of returning back to the hobby one day.
