Enaly Ozone Mod Question?
I have read all the threads on RC that I can find about ozone and the two recommended ozonators seem to be the Enaly and the Sanders. People talk about the Enaly putting off too much ozone when it is on (200mg/hr) because of the airpump. Has anyone modified the Enaly unit to turn off the airpump and just use the skimmer air intake? A schematic would be awesome! Thanks.

I know they sell one version w/o an airpump and one with it. It would probably be easier to use the one w/o than to mod it. The ozone produced is from the electrical discharge of the corona though. So even if you change the airflow through it, it would still produce the same mg/hr. It would be best to just put it on a controller and turn it off as the orp rises. Or even a timer.

Yeah I have an ORP meter on it and it runs great already. However, I'm greatly disappointed from the drop in skimmer output. It has dropped from a liter/wk to nothing. This has been going on for 3 weeks now and I'm worried that I'm increasing my dissolved organics to the point where I'll potentially have a break out of some sort of algae growth. I mean if I never have an issue with algae here than I'll probably get rid of the skimmer but such a drastic change like this makes me feel that I'm setting my tank up for disaster.
From my understanding if you decrease the airflow through the ozonator unit the coronal discharge will have less ability to excite O2 into ozone. I had an idea that this would drop my large and quick injections of O3 into my skimmer and potentially increase my skimming output.

Genetics.. I did the mod with my Enaly. It's pretty easy. However, it will detroy the warranty. Anyway, just open the ozone unit cover. Remove the air pump part. Then re-route the air intake to outside thru the hole. It will take less than 3 mins to do it.

Sounds pretty simple thanks! Void the warranty? Maybe I should wait since I see a division with some people have enaly's that work for less than a month or over two years. Once I've had it for a month or so I'll give the mod a try.

So, just for an update. Removing the airpump is the best idea ever. I went from no skimmate in my skimmer to sludge you'd find in some sort of tar pit.

I took a picture of before and after ozone addition just in case anyone ever wanted to see the difference. I have had my tank running for a yr before ozone addition and I think that might be why there seems to be such a difference.I took the two pictures with the same settings.
![]() This second picture was after two days of having my increase in ORP to 450s. ![]()

Awesome !!!
Same here tho. I thought my tank already crystal clear. However, after 5 days of running Ozone and keep it around 380, sometimes I thought there is no water at all.. ![]() |
