Mag Drive Gaskets ????????
I've been using a Mag Drive 7 for a year and a half as a closed loop. It hangs on the back and works fine. But I recently had to remove the cover to replace a worn impeller and now it drips everytime I put it back together.
None of my LFS's sell the gasket/cover combo in my area. So, I guess will have to mail order a $5 gasket/cover combo for $8 shipping. Seams like a waste of money. Apparently they don't sell just a gasket for these pumps. Again does anybody know if there is a trick to putting it back together to make it not leak? It was taken apart about 2 months ago and only leaked a little, but know it really drips. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I have 2 mag drive and both of the leaked from the begining, I just used silicone to sealed them. No problems after that.

Another great place to check is your local hardware store. They should have O-rings that will fit your pump, and it will save you money. Usually for items like these (O-rings, gaskets, etc.), I'll check there first.
Good luck! |

On my Mag 5, I need to be careful how I put the O-ring back on the unit... if I slide it over the impeller housing, it will twist. These twists cause it to be out-of-round and it will leak. If I take my time, I can get the O-ring back on without being twisted... no leaks because it will seat properly.

All my Mags leak like crazy when used externally. I tried to replace the O ring but it still leaked. When you use silicone do you remove the O ring and use only silicone or just put the silicone on the O ring and put the pump back together?? Even if this stops the leak--I don't know if I will trust it to not start leaking again.. RR

csb - that is the problem I was having. The last time I put the 'O' ring back it must have twisted. I can't get it to go back now, since it seams its molded that way now.
I was able to locate a round 'O' ring, which fits my pump perfectly. It passed the pressure test of me blowing into it with the end blocked and water in it, without leaking, so I may be set. We'll see if it works once I get it back up and running. I guess if it still leaks, I'll have to use some silicone. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Let us know if that works... the stock mag o-ring is probably the culprit of most leaks!

I put it back together with the 'O' ring and it only has a very slight drip. I just put a small tray under it and it only seams to get a few drops overnight. I am hoping the saltcreep may seal it up, like it used to do to my siphon break. We'll see.
