Need help on pump set up

I am going to be setting up my 180 Reef ready oceanic tank and needed some help with the pump selection. I have an oceanic model 3 sump and going to run an ETSS 800 skimmer. I was thinking of using a Gen X PCX 55 for the main pump (but open to other ideas, not sure which pumps work well). I will then have the water flow from the skimmer to the refuge and back to the tank. I need help with what type of pump to run the return from the refuge to the tank. Also, what is the preferred method, external or submergible? Thanks

Thunderstruck

You might compare the gen-x to a pan world 50px-x. Also the gen-x pcx-40 (mak4) would probably do just as well as the pcx 55 and is about 40-50 dollars cheaper. I would go with something 4-6 times the water volume after head loss.

External and submersible is a matter of preference, although can be influenced by whether or not heat may be an issue, available space, and the type of pump. Mag drives for example are great submersibles, but from my readings and limited experience don't do well externally over time.

Anyway, my that my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input! Do you perfer external or submersible? I was thinking of running an external Gen x for the main pump. Perhaps a submersible for the return. I know gen x also makes submersible, but not heard much feedback about them.
