A few questions about set up
I have been reading and talking to LFS about setting up my tank. For the most part I get similar responses except for on two subjects.
1) What is the better way to go Crushed Coral /live sand on top, or simply live sand? ( I would like to have maybe Jawfish or Gobies) 2) Currently I do not have a skimmer, but I am looking purchaseing one soon. I am leaning toward the super skimmer. Does anyone currently use this, if so what do you think? Thanks to everyone here. All of the information on this web site has hepled me so much. Steph |

To Reef Central Live or dead sand will work. Crushed coral is a nitrate trap waiting to happen. Depending on the tank size, the super skimmers work good. They over rate their skimmers so say if you had a 55 gallon, then you could need the 125 or 220 model. |

if you use the live sand on top of crushed coral, in a rather short time the sand with end up on the bottom anyway. just stick with the sand only. save some money and get the dry sand, and seed it with some live sand from an established tank. dont know where your from but theres probably a few people near you that will give you a cup of sand to seed your tank with. most LFS with SW tanks will sell you a pound or two as well.
what size tank are you looking to set up?

Thanks!
I have a 90 Gal Bowfront. I will be going with the super skimmer 220, along with only sand/live sand. Thanks for confirming my thoughts. Steph
