Nope...not strong enough lighting.

i have to disagree with that. a friend of mine has a blue carpet under 130watts lights in a 120gal high tank for around 6 years now. he loves it in the tank. the last we messured him a few weeks ago he was 25 inches long fully extented. i would worry more about spot feeding and water conditions...

I have my water checked weekly. No amonia nitrite or phophates. also ph is right on and i had my tank running for 6 moths nothing has died or have I had a problem. I should of researched the carpets first. I might of not got it because of the lighting issue. My friend has a 55 gallon with the same lighting I do. Its a pc 260 watts. I hope mine is going to be ok

he will be fine. he has alot to adapt to before he can feel at home and anemones sometimes flip out about nothing. i quiet worry about my bubble tip a long time ago. about 2 months after i got it he split himself so now i have two and if i worried about them like i use to i would be in a big trouble.. anemones are the most nerve racking thing you can have in your tank because we love them so much.. everything should be ok.

TAke my advice...leave my advice...wwest I am afraid you are wrong. Its not about watts per gallon but how intense the light is. PC is really only effective the first couple of inches. Is your friends carpet on the sand or toward the top. What kind of carpet is it?

PC's are fine for carpets, just depends on how deep the tank is, i had PC's but my tank was short enough for the carpet to thrive which it did. So PC's are fine for carpets.

trying not to flame the fire - just make sure you feed him well if you have him under those PC's. Like posted earlier that could be one reason why mine did well.

With PCs, your going to have to feed him more often, keep the water quality really stable and good. There is more room to "mess up" when they are in a tank with T5s or MH.

And I agree with you. There are so many animals that you can keep with high chance of success under PCs. Why is it that everyone wants to keep what they are really not set up for?

See, PCs are really meant for keeping soft corals, muchrooms, polyps, some lps and a BTA. Other than that, PCs really don't do as an aquedate job as T5 or MH. The problem with PC is that they don't penetrate the water very well. A couple of inches at best. They also loose a lot of light. Since there are two bulbs connected to each other, lots of light is lost because the distribution of light is going everywhere.

With T5s, some have the individual reflectors such as the Tek fixtures. Not only does T5 penetrate at best up to 18 inches but it puts out 300% more light with the individual reflectors for each bulb. And then you have MH. Well watt for watt MH doesn't put out as much light as T5s but can penetrate a lot deeper and is intense. For a tall tank, I would always go with MH. You can't really setup T5s on a tall tank since T5 bulbs are long and aren't coming from a small point source like MH.

Carpet anemones live in shallow water for the most part. SO not only do they get strong lighting but a low spectrum. A good spectrum imo to have would be anywhere from 6500K to 10000K. I would feel comfortable around that range. When you get to that deep blue, the zooxanthellae algae cannot function at its best with a pure actinic only or a sprectrum thats to "blue" for them.

All I am saying is that Carpets need strong lighting. T5s or MH is my best bet. Some do keep them under PCs and VHO and look great but for long term, the champs are that former.
