Circulation for a 150 RR
I am having the biggest problem with circulation on my 150 mixed reef. It has the overflow on the side of the tank (See Pic). I have a Mag 9.5 right now and some small misc. powerheads that I had on my 30 gallon reef. I do not like the look of powerheads at all. I want a clean looking tank so tunzes are out of the question. What I was think of doing is using one of the overflows as an overflow and the other one as a closed loop intake. I would then plumb the closed loop up and over the edge of the tank and eventually have it all hooked up to an ocean motions device. Please give some advice on what I should do for the circulation. The tank is not full yet so I am able to get it drilled again if needed but as you can see from the picures it is kind of hard to drill it and still be able to see from 3 sides of the tank.
Thanks, Josh http://reefcentral.com/gallery/showp...t=1&thecat=500 |

It pays for itself in the long run. To drill more holes and add a pump or upgrade pumps will cost more in the long run. The vortech will use 60 watts max and pump 3000 gph. To pump 3000 gph through a CL you will need a Sequence Dart which costs $218 and uses 160watts. You'll make that money back in electricity.
Plus the vortech has a more natural flow pattern. |
