Cleaner Shrimp vs. Neon Gobies?

I have had Cleaner Shrimp in the past and witnessed them cleaning my fish. I never had a neon goby, but they are supposed to clean fish too.

Which is better at cleaning fish on a regular basis? I'm not talking about cleaning out an outbreak just performing a maintenance cleaning on my residents.

Each individual specimen has it's own temperment and attitude. There is no truthful way to answer your question. Some shrimp clean like there is no tomorrow while others just sit in one spot all day long. Some Neon Gobies won't leave fish alone while others just swim aimlessly.

Before in my 29 gallon reef, i had a fire shrimp (always cleaning my shripm goby), my cleaner shrimp would randomly clean fish as they passed by him, and i also had a neon goby (who is curently in my 75) which never cleaned anyone, but that could be because he was CB.

Iv'e got both and they both clean in different ways iv'e noticed. the shrimp only clean when a fish stops by and presents itself. and Iv'e seen the goby just swim up and latch on to fish to clean. I think i will always have both in my tanks after seeing them both clean so well.

My Neon's literally attack new fish but after a few days and there after rarely do. My cleaner shrimp however do on occasion - sometimes I will peak in on my tank at night and the cleaner shrimp will be working on the fish as they sleep.
