i need some things cleared up
Okay I have a few questions and definitions i need answered.
What is a starphire tank? What is a closed loop? How do wave makers really work? What are hydroids and diatoms? What's up with Tunze? These are just things I see on RC threads all the time and i am not 100% sure what they are. Thanks

ok... A CLS is basicaly a water circulation system usually powered by an external pump, that directs water into multiple spots from one intake. Here is a good picture of one: http://s64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...bingback-1.jpg
all the pipes eccept tthe one toward the top going across is the cls. Tunze is a really expensive brand of heavy duty wavemaker pumps for tank circulation HTH

Starfire tank- Tank made from starfire glass. Low iron and very clear(no greenish hue)
Closed loop- water is drawn through bulkheads and pumped back into the tank, this avoids seeing pumps in the tank(all external), usually high flow. Wave makers- pumps are turned on and off creating a random flow. Hydroids- are small anemone looking things that will sting your corals Diatoms- grow on the tanks glass and substrate. nutrients in the water feed them and aid in their growth. They are usually brown in color. Tunze- a German company that makes high quality reef equipment. |

2. Closed loop is a pump that takes water directly from the tank - through the pump - then back into the tank. It is for circulation only. 3. Not sure myself... 4. Nasties that can infest a tank. Usually part of the cycle process caused by excessive nutrients. 5. Tunze are expensive, reliable, heavy duty "powerheads" that move a LOT of water. HTH

What is a starphire tank? Iron free glass, supposed to be more transparent than regular glass
What is a closed loop? you suck water from the display tank in one spot and shoot it back in another spot of the tank for circulation. How do wave makers really work? The idea is to simulate a wave, not a pump. Different kinds work different ways, but its typical for them to store water from a pump until they get to a certain level then dump the water all at once. What are hydroids and diatoms? Diatoms are a brown dusty algae that gather on everything in the tank. Hydroid...uhm....its a superconductive agent used by the Kremlin to catch the UFO's when they arent looking. What's up with Tunze? Its a real nice powerhead.
