I see why people go closed loop...
Well, I wanted more flow in my tank with out having to fiddle with my CL that I have right now, so I picked up a Seio 820 and hate it, from the stand point of how it looks in the tank... I could not imagine having a couple of these in the tank.
So I am going to upgrade my pump on CL...And since RC has a rule about posting in the For thread...I now have a Seio that is pretty much brand new and can not do anything with it... So for people who are in between on whether to go closed loop or not, GO CLOSED LOOP! |

LOL...Its not useless...
I bet it would mix a 5 gallon water cooler of koolaid in 2 minutes or less.... Saving time like that really helps before the saturday morning soccer game. 5 year olds love some koolaid... |

closed loops are good direct flow in certain locations (ie: under rockwork) Tunze and even seios are good for open/random flow. I like both, and em very satisfied with me tunze and seio, but wish i had a small CL for the direct flow i need.

Hmmm...so are 2 powerheads more obtrusive than PVC pipes hanging in the water and loc lines? Go Tunze once the nanostreams come out this Xmas. Mod 2 MJ900s until then. Use less energy, less noise, less chance of leaks and no holes in your tank in case you change your mind.

My loc-line does not take up nearly as much room as the Seio did...The seio was huge in there and with loc-line you can put it behind rocks with a hole in the rock and get flow and still hide it.

I am a big fan of closed loops. I use a couple of them on SCWDS
Overall I am happy with the result.

I agree, even with penductors on the ends, I think a CL is much less obtrusive than seios or tunze unless you have the stream rocks to hide them. I built my entire CL for much less than anyone would spend on a single seio or stream and I'm not putting any additional heat into my tank.
