Coralife Super Simmer Problems
I have had the 65G version of Coralife Super Skimmer for a few months on my 30G tank. The skimmer works like a charm...after giving me a hell of time trying to adjust it.
Everytime I change the water or add more than 2G of top off water, the setting is thrown off, the skimmer starts behaving abnormally and the collection cup fills up in a few seconds. During this time I try unsucessfully to adjust the water level with the knob to no reprive, the problem simply persists. After an hour or so the skimmer starts behaving normally and works as it should. So what am I doing wrong, or what should I do when I change the water level, how do I make the process of restarting the skimmer a little less troublesome. The thought of adjusing the skimmer sometime forces me to abandon my water change plans...HELP! |

The obvious solution to this would be to automate your top offs so that far less than 2G gets added at a time. If you don't have a sump for a float switch, figure out your daily evap and drip that.

great suggestion..will try the drip method. But when I do my bi-monthly water changes, I am left with the same dilemma, since I change atleast 6G.
Does anyone else own a CSS and has the same problem? |

Those skimmers only work if the pump is about 3" under the waterline.. Much more then that and they stop sucking air and just suck water then they overflow.. Make sure your pump is very close to the water line.. Don't dump alot of freshwater in all at once or it will overflow.. Freshwater doesn't bubble like salt so that pump will pump freshwater Alot fater then salt water that will make them overflow to..
During a water change its a good idea to turn your skimmer off anyway. HTH

and add a 1" gate valve onto your exit flow and open the skimmer valve all the way open. Easier to adjust flow with the gate valve
