New 240g tank pics
Just got my new tank running, a 240 gallon, 8' by 2' by 2'.
It has a 75 gallon sump and a nice skimmer. Here is a pic of the tank. Finally got it full after three days of hauling water. My RO wasn't putting out much. Got the live rock in there, only 120 pounds so far, more on the way. That's not the lighting I am going to use, that was from my 29g tank, giong to have two 4' 4 bulb T5 tek fixtures suspended. I have the bulbs, but need the fixtures yet. Here is a pick of the skimmer in action Here's a pic of how close of clearance I have, luckily it just fit and the top comes off with zero clearance. If anybody is looking for a nice skimmer, a guy I know from INDMAS built me this one. I can give you his contact info if you are interested. I only had it on a few hours and it is already pulling out gunk. And finally a pic of the pumps and everthing. I got the tank for $1230, and the stand for $500, what do you think? |

Goooooooood lord thats a long tank. Thats one of those tanks you grab a mask and snorkel when its time to clean the inside glass.

Nice tank. Congrats!
Wow, you aren't kidding about the close clearance between the top of the skimmer collection cup and the tank bottom! Are you even able to fit the lid on the skimmer collection cup? It looks like the foam is hitting the wood of the stand as it looks wet. You may want to have upper rim of the collection cup cut down a bit so that you can fit the lid. That wood will rot eventually and weaken if it is constantly wet like that. Nice tank though! |

yeah, it is getting the wood wet and the cover won't fit on, I'll havet to either router it down or put a plastic seal on the wood.

Yeah, if I were you I'd do something to fix that. I'm not much of a DIY person (well, I am, but I'm not familiar with what cuts that cast acrylic (?) material), so I'm not sure what the best method of cutting that down is. If it's not too much of a pain, can you send it back to the guy that built it for you and ask him to cut it down an inch or so?
You might as well take care of it now.... |

Get that cut down. Sealing the wood would only be a bandaid fix that will ultimately lead to salt creep getting all over the inside of your stand.

thats a pretty major problem that needs to be fixed -- just cuz it can be packed under the stand doesnt mean it actually "fits"
