Pinpoint DO and Salinity Meter?? Need advice please.

I am volunteering at the local Gulfarium (link: http://www.gulfarium.com/ - not the best site, but gives you an idea) doing maintenance of the reef tanks systems. They have about 3000g worth of tanks. All in pretty good shape. Our local reef club is going to have our meeting there next month and also see what we can do to help and learn.

I have a Pinpoint Dissolved Oxygen Meter. I don't know if the probe is good on it. I plugged it in and checked a tank with it and it read 54.7 ppt. Any ideas if this is good or not?? How does one calibrate the probe?? I thought these probes were BIG bucks for a new one.

Different question. I also have a Pinpoint Salinity Meter. I got a reading but am unsure of the probe accuracy. How do I calibrate the probe.

Hey James. Do they want 24/7 monitoring or just something they can drop into each setup daily to check DO and salinity? I may have a better option for them if daily is the case.

I don't know about the DO probe, but you can purchase calibaration fluids for the salinity meter. It is a measured 53uS/Cm fluid. Instructions to calibrate the unit in on Pinpoints website.

Sorry can't help with websites to purchase the calibration fluids unless you want to buy via a Canadian Sourse. I would imagine Marine Depot or some of the better known US sites carry it.

Hope this helps
