Do you outflow your skimmer directly to the return?

I have the ASM g3 and did the gate valve mod last weekend. Is there any reason I can't redirect the outflow directly to the return? If I throw a filter sock over the outflow tube to catch and bubbles that might have made it through will it stay clean for a reasonable amount of time?

I have directed mine to go into the pre return sponge. It has been running this way for a couple weeks. I haven't tried a sock on it though. I will ride this post for the outcome.

I was going to do the same thing. I thought it would be better to redirect to the return area instead of going right back into the skimmer area. I thought it would just be re-skimming the water it already skimmed. ASM G4 40 gal sump
