Protein skimmer advice

Hi. I have a crappy skimmer that came built in to my wet-dry, and I am looking to upgrade.
I was hoping that some of you might be able to point me in right direction and give me some advice as to a good but not too expensive skimmer for my 90g tank.

I was originally looking at the kent nautilus but was told by a friend that I would do better with a asm g-2.

Please give me some input on the matter.

Thanks in advance and God bless.

Look into Coralife Super Skimmers. The needle wheels. If you're on a budget, you'd do well with a CSS 125. Great bang for your buck.

I run a CSS65 on my heavily stocked 30g. It produces a full cup of dark black sludge every 3 days. After seeing the results I had, my buddy bought one for his 55. I personally love them, and there's tons of others here who feel the same way.

The coralife skimmers are decent skimmers but the ASM will blow them away. If you have the money for the ASM then get it. You should also look into the Octopus skimmers.

I agree with that one an ASM will make a CSS look like a toy.

I ran a CSS 125 on my 100 gallon for a good 8/9 months and it pulled out the kind of crap that afforded me much pleasure and spiritual gratitude on a daily basis. I currently run an ASM G4X on a 225 gallon with a 55 gallon sump. IMHO, you get what you pay for. ASMs, poor man's ERs, are better skimmers, yes. My point, however, was that for the money, you can't go wrong with CSS.

how much are u looking to spend? i used to have the CSS 65, i hated that thing it never worked right it would work sometimes and not at all or long periods. my experience was that it was very inconsistent but others swear by them. Look at Octopus recirculating skimmer( http://www.octopusskimmer.com/) or a used euroreef can be had for pretty cheap in the for sale section of this forum

go with a euro reef and you will not need to replace it again. on a budget you can find blems or even used. i dont know why for two skimmers to look so similar. the euro gets much better skimmate.

I think I would call the ASM the smart mans skimmer before I would call it the poor mans skimmer

You need to pick a price point and then go "most bang for the buck" It's like buying a house. Sooner or later, you've gotta go " my limit right now is......" Do your research here on RC and then but the best you can afford for your budget.

Yeah I was thinking about selling my car to buy a Deltec AP1006 for my 65g but I don't think it will fit under my stand.

That's real funny Sam, but even if I had the money, I dont think $7000.00 for a skimmer is smart or worth it.
