refugium substrate

What substrate do you use in refugium? If use sand, how deep should it be? Anyone use crushed coral?

1-2mm aragonite. I have about 6 inches in a ~7gal refugium (15 gal sump when filled to top).

I currently using 6 inches of Aragmax sugar-size sand by Caribsea in my refuge.

I just use LR rubble and chaeto.

No substrate in my fuge.

It depends on what your going to put in it or what are you trying to grow?Are you useing it for nutrient control,pod production,or just looks?
IMO don't use crushed coral,it can be a nutrient trap.
