More Crazy ideas......
What do people think about having a remote DSB outside?
I do not have room for one under the tank and was thinking if I put it outside I could make it bigger, I am not sure if the bacteria would survive though as most of the time in the UK it is cold.. Its probably a no no, but what do people think? Cheers, Sean

Outside the house? You're going to be pumping water that's probably dang close to freezing back into your tank. This is a definate no. Heat losses would be way too expensive.

Actually you could do it if you build a little ciderblock house around it. (We use to have one we called a pump house, that protected the water pump on the well from freezing.) If you insulate it well enough. (Dad used saw dust inside the blocks) it will stay about the same temp year round. Warm enough in winter cool enough in summer. Just make it small and let the roof lift off.
