Cheap Base Rock??

I remember a thread a while back that had an awsome place to buy base rock. It came out to like 1$/lb shipped. Does anybody know of this site or where I can find some cheap base rock?

Hirocks.com is the best and the cheapest. my opinion

i believe that was me that started that thread...for hirocks.com? 60 lb box for 60 shipped...i'm not getting it after reading everyones opinions on it. Its apparently very dense, thus meaning you actually need more of it to have the same surface area as lighter rock w/lots of holes (the bacteria grows on the surface of the rock...so if theres no holes, the rock will be hevier and the bacteria will only grow on the outside...do you see what i'm saying? i'm at a loss for words lol)

anyways, everyone seemed to say that reeferrocks.com was the best way to go...2 bucks/lb..but i dont know about shipping.

I ordered from Reeferrocks.com Service was awesome, and they even send you a picture of the rocks before it is sent.

ha! hirocks IS shut down i guess...i got the same "your requested page has been disabled" message on there...glad i didnt buy from them after all, cuz from what everyone says, they take forever and never reply to messages...so they'd prolly have my money but not ship my rock yet.

and thats what everyone told me about reeferrocks.com...the service is outstanding and the rock is top quality, along with pics so you can pretty much pic and choose what you want

I just bought 150 lbs. for $398.00 which includes shipping. The only thing is the store will only ship it ground shipping. The store is in Ohio so it might not be a good idea if you live in CA but since you're in Arkansas it might only take 2 days. Let me know if you want the link.

that sucks about hirocks, I personally have had good rock from them as well as other reefers in my local fish club.

I just talked to the guy at reeferrocks and he seemed really nice. He told me that there would be no point in ordering this week because they are all preparing for the hurricane. Sounds like a top notch outfit.

Dr. Fosters and Smith sell something called Fiji Foundation Rock that, by my estimation, is about the same price as reeferrocks. I haven't heard anything about it, though, and was curious if it was any good. It's not completely dead either.

it says its dense though, so i suppose it means its not porous?

Yeah, dense would likely mean not porous. I love my little holes and caves.

Yeah, but, Foster/Smith also say that their premium Fiji rock is dense, and that's pretty popular, right? Plus, dense relative to what? Hirocks is supposed to be dense compared to every other type of rock, but maybe Foster/Smith is just dense compared to the rest of the live rock they offer. How would reeferrocks compare in density to fiji foundation, or to other types of live rock? Maybe, reeferrocks is also dense compared to other live rock, just not dense compared to hirock. I'd really like to know. I feel like it might seem like I'm arguing for Foster/Smith, which I'm not. I also just want the least dense rock possible.

But reeferocks is supposedly pretty porous from what everyone told me.

I also want the least dense rock i can find...mostly because it takes less rock (poundage wise) to fill up the tank...like 40 lbs of very porous rock is gonna take up a good amount in a 40 gallon tank (the one i need it for lol)...whereas 40 lbs of a dense rock isnt gonna fill it out much. I personally like the looks of tanks that have rock built way up high...if you get dense rock, you can build it high, but if you can only afford say pound per gallon...its not gonna go too high. Porous rock would be nicer to build w/imo.
