Return pump plumbing

Hello to all. i was wondering if i should go with 1/2" or 3/4" PVC on my mag 7. I am wanting to make 2 spray outlets, one on each side to help with overall movement on the sandbed. any opinions??

Thanks!
B

1", or 1.5" if you can. Dont reduce to the smaller size until you absolutely have to. The bigger plumbing will give you MUCH more flow.

With 1/2" plumbing you'll be lucky if you get 200gph total out of that pump

Yup, what you're trying to do is decrease the velocity of the water in the pipe (to reduce friction) and then increase the velocity back at the lockline.

I really wish Danner would start putting 1" outputs on all their smaller pumps. Especially when thats what they reccomend you run them on.

I use a Mag7 pump that sends the water up a 3/4" pipe vertically about 15" into the base of a Lifeguard UV, goes up about 20 more inches through that, and then another 40" through 1" pipe that terminates with a 3/4" Loc-line nozzle into the tank. I can see that water (bubbles) moving in the tank at least 25" from where it enters the surface.

Rule of thumb for a Mag is double the outlet size. 1" for a Mag7.
