Ushio 4oo watt 14k SE - anyone using them?

Just curious what the thought is about these bulbs. If you're using them, what do you think? What ballast are you using?

I'm considering a switch from Hamilton 14ks run on a standard PFO ballast. I've searched but have found little feedback other than they are more "white" than most other 14ks on the market. PAR info would be great but I don't see tham on Sanjay's websight yet.

TIA

yes. Well the BLV branded version anyways. I am using the ACLS ballast.

It's much whiter than what is typically marketed as a 14k bulb, but very pleasant. Conceptually not all that far from the Hammy.

Thanks moonpod. Any idea on PAR value? How is growth on a comparable basis?

beats me. I really run more of a FOWLR than a reef. My clams grow just fine....as do the softies and what not that the fish don't eat (I just had the great big LPS massacre...UGLY). It's certainly a visually "bright" bulb.

Does anyone else have experience with or PAR specs on these bulbs?

You most likely are not going to be able to find any par specs available. If you do come across someone who has done something, it will be very hard to make a comparison with Joe or Sanjay's results just because so many variable come into play. I would wait until Sanjay has these available, so you can compare apples to apples. HTH

I run them on PFO HQI's. As Moonpod says, they're bright for 14K's. I run 4 6' URI's and it's about the same look as with XM 10K's and the URI's.
