best mechanical filter for FOWLR 55g tank

whats the best filter guys? and what type of media do you guys use? I am currently at the moment just using LR and LS as my filteration for my tank and am planning to purchase a new mechanical filter for this tank. I was using a wet/dry AC500 for a little while with just a sponge, clenaed every week, that doesnt seem to get the gunk away.

what are you guys using and what type of media? I only have a Puffer in there.

I've been using an AC 110 (500) for awhile now and it does a pretty good job, IMO, of keeping my tank clean (55 gal. w/ heavy stocking). I only use the sponge and a bag of carbon. I have a friend that uses one on a 75 and his is spotless (it's moderately stocked and no ls or lr).
