It can save you cash if you are currently running your air conditioning while you aren't there just for the tank, yes. A chiller uses about as much power as a small window airconditioner, which is much less than your average central AC unit.

1.34hp=1kW
So say on your 65 gallon tank you run a 1/5 HP chiller. This equals about 150 Watts. Lets say it runs 20% of the time to chill your tank. There are 672 hours in a month. 20% of 672 = 134 hours. 134 hours * 150 watts = 20.1 kW*hrs. Now you need to look at your electric bill and see how much 1kW*hr costs. Usually around $.14 I think. So .14*20.1 = $2.82. Which seems really low to run a 1/5 hp chiller but I've been drinking so there is no telling where I might have gone wrong on my math. Can another engineer review this?? Either way a chiller is WAY cheaper to run if all your trying to do is keep your tank cool. I on the other hand have to have a COLD house so there is no point for me investing in one. Hope this helps a bit.
