Carib Sea live sand
Hi,
I purchased some carib-sea live sand and added it to my tank, the sacks of sand come wet and contain bacteria ect and it clearly states on the bag that you do not rinse before use. Its turned my tank very cloudly or milky and it hasnt settled for 2 days. Its also left a white film on the live rock and any submerged equipment. Has anyone else used this stuff and should I be worried about the white film. Thanks

You can skim the foam off with a cup/ sm container. If you have your skimmer running that should clear up overnight. I've 96lbs of that stuff in mine 75g and don't have any problem. I've also added 50+ lbs of Florida live sand.

It's best to add it a little at a time with the pumps off, hard to do with a existing tank . LOL

Thanks for the replys.
Its a new set up, Ive been curing the rock for 3 weeks (it came from friend breaking down his tank which was fine but I prefer the 'slowly slowy catchy monkey'â„¢ method.) Its the white film its left behind over the rocks and stuff, Should I just wait for it to settle and then get in there with a turkey baster and blast it off?

If it's a new tank with no corals placed on the rocks, you can always take the rocks out and dunk/swish them in buckets of saltwater or bast them in the buckets also. Not sure what the slime could be.

turn your pumps off for a few hours to let it settle, then blast stuff off the rocks with a turkey baster.

Its settled down this morning and the white film seems thinner all round.
I'll pop into town and get a large baster and give it a blast tonight. Thanks for the replys, its put my mind at ease.

For safety insure the powerhead is plugged to a GFCI.

the carib sea sands will all do that. it is just the very fine particles in the sand and it can take up to a week to settle. if you can just take a Turkey baster and keep blowing off all your rocks so all of the finer sediments settle.
